Achieve a Beautiful Bright Smile with U Veneers

Posted on 09.14.16

Veneers are a great way to enhance your smile and brighten your teeth. These thinUntitled.004-001 layers of resin can change the shape and colour of your teeth, close gaps, modify the position of your teeth and help you achieve an attractive smile. At Tooronga Family Dentistry we have been using veneers for many years.  Recently we have introduced the new state of the art
technique of Uveneers. Uveneer is a unique, minimally invasive system that creates beautiful direct composite veneers with predictable shape and symmetry—all in one visit. Uveneer uses innovative technologies that help achieve a refined, anatomically correct, high-gloss restoration.

For more information on how you can improve your smile with veneers, please call us  98227006 to make an appointment.

Here’s How to Stay Healthy and Enjoy the School Holidays.

Posted on 09.13.16

It is school holiday season which means that more people will be traveling to spend some time with friends and family. Here are some tips to keep you healthy when traveling:

Have a healthy breakfast.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Having a nutritious breakfast sets the tone for the  rest of the day by maintaining good blood glucose levels. Some great options for your body and teeth are: fresh fruits, eggs, yogurt, and cereals. Avoid sugary and baked goods.

Drink plenty of water.

Water is always important to keep you fit and health but when you’re traveling drinking it is especially important. Water dilutes the sugar  and salt you consume and flushes out bacteria, plus staying hydrated helps keep your immune system and energy levels high.

Find ways to relax.

Our daily life is stressful enough, so it is important to find a quiet place to relax, read, meditate, and catch up on some sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to overeating, affect your mood, and lead to errors while driving. Make sure to allow yourself plenty of free time during your holiday, otherwise your will need another holiday to rest after the school holidays.

Keep your toothbrush dry.

Bacteria are opportunistic creatures and a wet toothbrush is a cozy place for them to grow in. While on the road you may need to pack your toothbrush wet, so at your destination, clean it and let it dry before you use it. Don’t forget to pack dental floss or interdental brushes, since your bacteria are not on holiday.

The team at Tooronga Family Dentistry wishes you a great time on your holiday.

A Good Mouthguard is a Good Protection for your Teeth.

Posted on 09.9.16

Do you enjoy sport, martial arts or other high-impact activities? Do you wear a mouthguard regularly? If not, try picture yourself with a missing front tooth?

While playing any kind of sport or commuting on your bicycle an accident can happen. If the mouthguard is not there to protect your teeth. A “face on” impact can lead to one or more of your front teeth been knocked out or fractured, a hit to your lower jaw can slam your jaws together and can crack or break your back teeth or damage to your TMJ joint. For kids, sports injuries account for almost 40% of dental trauma.

How Do Mouthguards Work?

Mouthguards act like elastic bumpers – they absorb the initial impact, and spread the pressure around the material. This way they can drastically reduce the chances of an injury like a fractured tooth, a tooth avulsion or a concussion.

What kinds of mouth guard are available?

  • Ready-Made Mouthguards, are typically inexpensive, and can be purchased at the chemist or sporting apparel store. But because they may not fit well or be uncomfortable to wear. These one-size-fits-all items, are likely to fall out or come loose when you run or are active. They can be hard to breathe with and can make it difficult to speak. Also if the whole team’s mouthguard looks alike you may end up wearing someone else’s. Most importantly in the event of an impact they can fly out of your mouth and not protect your teeth.
  • “Boil and Bite” Mouthguards, these are more expensive than the “Ready made” ones and require some DIY skills. These mouthguards are less likely to fall out when you are running or active, making it more likely to protect your teeth. But they are still bulky and can make it hard to speak with. Even though these mouthguard have a better fit there is still a greater chance that they can come loose “in action”.
  • Custom Fitted Mouthguards, are the best option when it comes to protection against trauma and give the best comfort. For these reasons, these are the mouth guards everybody is happy to wear.

A study published in the Journal of Athletic Training confirmed that custom-fitted mouthguards can reduce the chances of concussion by more than 50%. Custom fitted mouthguards are exactly that – made to not only fit snugly over your teeth, but have a better retention. Many athletes who use this kind of mouthguard found it much easier to breathe and speak with them due to their even shape and thickness. Custom fitted mouthguards are very durable, can be cleaned easily, and Dr. Kaufman can  custom-order yours in different color combinations and even add your name to it.

Please take the time to get a mouth guard and wear it. Injuries to your face and teeth are common, while participating in sporting activities both for children and adults. A missing front tooth, damage to TMJ joint, and concussions can have a life long lasting significant impact not just on your teeth, but on your health, appearance and confidence too. You can get a custom mouthguard in the colors of you choice and your name on it, made at Tooronga Family Dentistry, please call us to make an appointment.
