Cracked Molar

A broken molar is a dental emergency and it has to be fixed as soon as possible. Cracks can happen when eating. Molars are the teeth that break the food down to be swallowed.
Cracked molars or chipped molars are a common occurrence since your molars absorb most of the force when you chew or grind your teeth. Eating hard types of foods (like hard candy, nuts or grains) and chewing on ice can lead to a fractured molars that need repair. Grinding your teeth can cause split molars too. Tooth grinding usually happens at night when one sleeps and the cracks gradually grow. We may not be able to foretell the exact moment when a molar breaks and it may not always be painful when it does. If you experience pain or sensitivity while chewing, eating or drinking hot or cold foods, you may have a cracked molar.
Since everyone’s case is different, the best way to get help with your cracked molar is to make an appointment with Dr. Kaufman. Since your molars do a lot of work when eating, it’s no surprise that if one of them cracks or chips, it’s a big deal. We need them. Don’t delay, since the cracks will get bigger and more painful over time.
