Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that affects the joints, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness. In this disease the immune system attacks the body’s tissues, but its exact causes aren’t known. It is prevalent in all ages though it affects women more than men, and it is more common among older people. Previously it has been published that if you suffer from periodontal disease, you may develop rheumatoid arthritis. A recently published research found that those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis have a higher risk for periodontal disease. This relationship is similar to that of diabetes and gum disease.
