Water Fluoridation

In the United States the Surgeon General praised the efforts of community leaders who have introduced fluoride into their water systems 70 years ago, and named it one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century, along with immunizations and tobacco control.

I’m aware that there is an ongoing debate about the importance of water fluoridation and it’s possible effects on our health. Evidence has shown that “Water fluoridation is the best method for delivering fluoride to all members of the community regardless of age, education, income level, or access to routine dental care,”. This was said by the United States Surgeon General in a video posted on his office’s website.

In my daily work it is very easy to distinguish between the adults, who grew up in homes where they drank fluoridated tap water  and those who grew without it. Those who had fluoridated tap water have few cavities or none at all compared to those who drank filtered, bottled or tank water.
