Teeth Whitening Glen Iris

Whitening your teeth is a safe treatment done under the supervision of the dentist. The results are pleasing and brighten your smile. Many times the outcome depends on the cause of the staining. In order to provide you with the right solution Dr Kaufman will examine you first and advise of the best way to achieve the results you desire. We use the leading, well proven whitening agents that are prescribed after consulting with you.

Common causes for teeth colouration are:

-Eating or drinking items that temporarily stain the teeth

-Genetic defects that affect the tooth enamel

-Poor oral hygiene

-As a result of the evolution of the tooth or of treatments done to it like a root canal treatment.

The whitening process depends on the type of staining on the tooth. For superficial stains there are two whitening techniques, the “Take home whitening system” and the “in Dentist’s chair” whitening. Dr. Kaufman would advise you regarding the advantages and disadvantages of either system. We care about our patients safety and comfort and supply whitening materials in accordance with the Australian Dental association.

The Whitening Systems used at Tooronga Family Dentistry are evidence based and have been extensively tried and found be very effective.

Recently a comparative study has been published in an important dental journal about the different whitening methods. The researchers result was that “The Bleaching techniques tested were equally effective. Light sources are unnecessary to bleach teeth.” This emphasizes that claims about superior results being achieved with a special lamp or laser beam are not proven.

For stains that are internal to the tooth, Dr Kaufman provides a different type of whitening called Internal Whitening.

Please contact us for an examination where Dr Kaufman can assesses the source of the staining and the possible solutions.
