Summer is almost here with warmer and longer days prompting us to go out and have a good time. I would like to give you some advice that will help keep your teeth safe as you enjoy your favorite summer activities.
Use a Mouthguard
Both children and adults can benefit from wearing a mouthguard when participating in contact sports and games. There are very few kinds of sport that can be excluded from the list of those who need a protective mouthguard. One sad example is a lady that was hit by a low flying golf ball and broke four front teeth. We can help you choose the right mouthguard and have it fitted before the season starts. Don’t wait to gain your personal experience.
Sports Drinks
Sports drinks can be refreshing and a great way to hydrate ourselves during sporting activities but unfortunately they contain high levels of sugar and acid, which are known to breakdown the teeth and soften the tooth enamel. The simplest way to prevent sport drinks from damaging your teeth, is to drink water instead. It is a great option to keep you hydrated before, during, or after activities.
Keep a good oral hygiene
While it is always important to maintain a great oral hygiene with brushing and flossing, it is especially important during summer when we consume more sugar and become dehydrated easily. In summer there is more consumption of sugar from energy bars and chewing gum, ice cream, party foods to fizzy drinks. All that sugar may give you an extra boost, but it’s left overs in the mouth, need to be removed to prevent the increased risk of cavities.
